*“It might be too hard.”
*“I don’t know if I can do this.”
If so, it’s normal, but it won’t do you any good.
There’s another story you can tell yourself. You may have heard this one before, but it’s effective. It’s a healthy story that can fill you up with energy.
The idea is to be the hero of your own movie.
Imagine you are in a movie about your own life. You’re at a crossroads, life has gotten you down, and you’re facing challenges. What will you do?
Will you run and hide? Or will you rise up, take on the challenge, and be the hero?
Make a movie that people would want to watch.
Running scared is not a good movie. Be a hero instead.
Take some time and legitimately write your own hero story. Talk about what trials and tribulations you have faced in your life. Talk about what you’re currently going through. Then talk about what you’re going to do about it. What will that look like?
Develop this story and use it as fuel for your fire. Suddenly, steps B through Y don’t seem as scary or tough. They seem like an adventure or quest.
My hero story is all about coming back from Thailand and turning what could be deemed a failure into a success. This is tough for me to talk about because it’s still so fresh, but when I went to Thailand, I hit a hardcore depression.
I stopped caring. I didn’t want to leave the house. I didn’t want to work. I didn’t want to do anything. I was frozen in time and indifferent to everything. I drank more, I ate less healthfully, and I barely exercised.
I knew I was in a rut, so I let myself fail, and I came back home. When I got back to the U.S., I was dead broke and in debt. This was right around the two-year mark of my entrepreneurial journey. For a little while, I felt bitter and angry about putting in all that work and still not having the results I desired. It felt like a waste of time.
I was inches away from dropping my work and getting a 9-to-5 job when I pulled myself out. Just like in the movies, I had a last minute change of heart and decided to recommit.
Now I’m here, writing this book and building up a new life. A better life.
I am enjoying the process of putting words on paper and getting in great shape. Not because it’s easy or I’m so passionate, but because I know that I’m building up a new life.
I am doing this and it feels good. Every word written is another step closer. I’ll never be happy by achieving six figures from writing.
But I will be satisfied each and every day that I work hard, and I will be damn proud of my accomplishments when I do hit those numbers.
This is my hero story and it gets me working.
But you must create your own hero story.
Rebuild yourself, rise from the ashes, overcome obstacles, and be awesome.
